On Sunday October 21, World Record Diving Malta launched their new & innovative 'Treasure Island' competition. Treasure Island is a thrilling underwater treasure hunt challenge around the most popular dive sites found on the Maltese Islands. Following the success of the event, Treasure Island will now be held twice annually at the beginning and at the end of the diving season.
The aim of the game is to compete against rival teams to get to the
finish line first- whilst also solving riddles, collecting treasures as
well as overcoming a number of other hidden challenges and obstacles
faced along the journey. In the 2012 edition the teams were given a list
of photos to be captured along their journey varying from photos at
specific locations, to performing tricks underwater such as juggling and
handstands, to dressing up as clowns and as Santa underwater. The teams
truly went all out with their creativity and imagination and WRDMalta
have got photos to prove it!
The teams were also given a General Knowledge quiz regarding the
various dive sites they needed to visit in order to collect the hidden
treasures. The answers to these questions could actually be found at the
dive sites so teams set off on their quests to find the correct answers
and all teams managed to answer these questions correctly- well done to
all!
Throughout the day the teams involved showed great enthusiasm and
extreme effort to complete all their challenges. Everybody had a great
time and the organizers expressed how they later suffered from jaw ache
from smiling and laughing whilst watching the teams’ performance
throughout the entire event.
World Record Diving Malta received extremely positive feedback regarding this event and everybody involved expressed what a fun filled day it was. “We cannot wait for the next edition dates to be released- what an exciting game” and “it is a genius idea which should have been thought of years ago – honestly that was one of the most fun days I’ve ever had diving” were some of the comments received from the participants.
The organizer, Mikaela Papagiorcopulo, said that she was extremely content with the outcome and especially by all the positive feedback received. “The scope behind our organization is to promote the sport of diving in Malta as well as to bring the diving community together and by launching this event we have managed to do just that! It is great to see divers and instructors from different dive schools come together and put in such effort and great team work especially when in aid of charity!”
Finally, WRDMalta would like to say congratulations to the winning
teams – very well deserved. WRDMalta would also like to express sincere
gratitude to their sponsors: Starfish Diving School, Corinthia St.George
Hotel, Marina Hotel- Corinthia Beach Resort, Ta’ Cassia Salina
