The main objective behind the company WRDMalta is
to showcase the sport of diving and to promote Malta as an ideal destination
for divers. Therefore, we endeavour to organize as many events as possible
which will bring the diving community together for pleasure diving as well as
team building. For this reason we have recently launched our new event ‘Treasure
Island’ which will take place twice annually as of October 2012.
Treasure Island is a thrilling underwater treasure
hunt challenge which will take place around the most popular dive sites found on
the Maltese Islands. Clues and riddles will guide teams to a number of hidden
treasures which will be buried around a variety of wrecks and sites. The aim of
the game is to compete against rival teams to get to the finish line first -
whilst also solving clues & riddles, collecting treasures, as well as
overcoming a number of hidden challenges and obstacles which will be faced
along the exciting journey.
The first episode of this series of events will take place on Sunday 21st October at Starfish Diving School, St.George’s Bay – Malta. All those interested in participating will be asked to be present at Starfish Diving School found beneath the Marina Hotel- Corinthia Beach Resort by no later than 08h00am. Teams will be given their guidebooks and at 09h00 they will set off on their adventure searching for the hidden treasures amidst many of Malta's most popular dive sites. Teams must complete as many of the challenges as they possibly can but must make it back to the finish line before time expires at 19h00. Any team failing to arrive back at the finish line by this team will risk being disqualified.
Do you think you have what it takes?
Teams of four divers must be formed all of whom
must be Advanced Open Water Qualified or higher and must show proof of
certification upon subscription. It would be advised to have one Rescue Diver
per team. Teams must provide own means of transportation around the island
(obligatory) as well as a minimum of ONE underwater camera to be used in
various challenges. Finally, participants must provide their own equipment and
cylinders although rentals will be available from Starfish Diving School on the
day of the event – early bookings are recommended.
The participation fee for this event is 10€ per diver (40€ per team). WRDMalta consider their events not only physical challenges but also charitable goals. With that being said, we are currently promoting donations to the local charity Dar Tal-Providenza; thus a percentage of what is collected during this event will be donated towards this charity. Any further donations would be highly appreciated and can be made by going to www.rtk.com.mt and clicking on the link to RTK4Charity.
